Clever’s farm is located in the village of El Corazón in the hills above Chirinos, one of the main coffee towns in the renowned Cajamarca region of Peru. Clever’s family have owned the farm for many years, and originally used it as pasture for their dairy cows until Clever took over the farm in 2013.
Clever used to work as a QC professional for one of the large coffee co-operatives in Cajamarca, but after meeting the team at Finca Churupampa, who export these coffees for us in partnership with Red Beetle and Raw Material, and realising that the farm is ideally situated for growing high-quality coffee, Clever decided to to plant 4 hectares of the farm with caturra, catuaí, bourbon and catimor.
Clever runs the farm in a very holistic, and near organic style, taking soil analysis every year, importing organic compost from Finca Churupampa and maintaining an area of wilderness at the bottom of the farm, including one tree that is over 200 years old!
This is the first coffee that we have offered from Clever, but we look forward to returning next season to see what other gems he has to offer.
