The coffee comes from the Gui Ben washing station in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, grown at elevations of 1,400–1,630 metres above sea level in a remote region more traditionally known for exceptional tea. Located east of Pu’er City and close to the Laos border, the area offers ideal conditions for producing distinctive, high-quality coffees.

Production is led by Mr Tian Cai, Farm Operations Manager for Yunnan Coffee Traders (YCT), with day-to-day operations managed by his family member, Mr Tang. Together, they work alongside a small group of farming families in the Guiben region. Coffee is grown on their own farms and complemented by cherries purchased directly from nearby smallholders, helping support the wider local community.

Their approach to specialty coffee is driven by two clear priorities: creating sustainable livelihoods for local farmers and restoring biodiversity to the land. In a region where monoculture crops like bananas are common, farms are being diversified with macadamia trees, mangoes, and oranges planted alongside tea and coffee. Only organic fertiliser is used, supplied by YCT, supporting long-term soil health and resilience.

Cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, carefully floated to remove defects, and then slowly dried on raised beds for four to five weeks. The result is a standout coffee, produced by a group of deeply committed and hardworking people, and one we’re genuinely proud to offer.
